Slice Poker Equity Calculator Introduced for Hold'em, Omaha

Knowing your equity in a hand is one of the primary skills regulars have that new players simply do not understand.  Even if you’ve been around the game for a while, you still need to review hands and double-check that your equity calculations were correct.  Until now, most of these programs have come as third party applications that only work with two-card Hold’em hands.

Enter a new program called Slice Poker Equity Calculator, which supports Hold’em and Omaha.  The program will calculate equity for Omaha, Omaha 8, and Hold’em and comes with other features.  Currently, Slice is in a free public beta trial period that will end in July.  No other information about an extended beta or the cost of the program has been posted on its official website.

Slice will integrate itself to a Holdem Manager or PokerTracker database and automatically load marked hands or hands with notes on them.  Another feature is board ranges, which will let you use ranges on the board.  For example, to get all paired flops, you can specify that in the flop box:



Another important feature of Slice is weighted ranges, which lets you assign up to four weighted sub-ranges for a player.  This means you could conceivably assign that 30% of the time, a player has A-A or A-K and 70% of the time has J-J.  In addition, the program allows for side pots so you can specify which players are eligible for those.  You will receive the equity for both the main pot and the side pot in the output.

There are two more features highlighted with Slice.  Use Aliases to create names for different ranges and save them for future calculations.  The last of the listed features is Hand Strength, which lets you manipulate the average hand strength at showdown for a player’s range.

For those new to Slice, there is an incredible amount of documentation available for figuring out the program and getting into the nitty-gritty if you want to work with the syntax.  On top of that, its creator has made himself available to beta testers through e-mail.

For now, the Slice Poker Equity Calculator is exclusively available for Windows computers; however, the creator of the program has noted that a Mac-version might be in development soon.

Installing Slice is pretty easy and getting it integrated with your PostgreSQL database, which is used by both PokerTracker and Holdem Manager, is fairly simply if you are familiar with how to connect to it.  Being able to mark hands and have a pretty slick in-depth equity calculator are beneficial for pure students of the game of poker.  However, the greatest asset is that this calculator supports Omaha and Omaha 8 hands, which many of the equity calculators do not do.  All in all, this is a pretty slick program and definitely worth checking out during any free beta or trial period that it might offer.
